Editorial Policy

This page sets out how this site selects topics, sources its material, checks claims, handles affiliate links, reviews published pages and corrects errors. It applies to all pages published on this site.

1. Scope

This policy covers editorial decisions on this site. It does not describe the practices of any operator, regulator or other organisation referred to in published pages. Questions about this policy can be raised through the comment form on any post.

2. Topics

Topics are chosen where a Canadian adult audience needs a plain account of a regulatory or legal position. The site covers the following areas:

  • Ontario’s regulated iGaming framework, including AGCO licensing standards and iGaming Ontario operational requirements.
  • Provincial self-exclusion programs and ConnexOntario referrals.
  • CRA treatment of gambling winnings.
  • Regulatory timelines and notification duties after data breaches.

A topic is selected when primary documents exist that can be read and cited. The site does not publish pages built only on secondary summaries or on material supplied by an operator.

3. Sources

Pages are built from primary sources. These include the AGCO Registrar’s Standards, iGaming Ontario public reports, provincial statutes and CRA interpretations. Where a page states a rule, a date or a duty, the source document is identified in the text or in a link.

Danika Ferro writes the pages on this site. She is a compliance analyst at a Canadian provincial gambling regulator and covers Ontario’s regulated iGaming framework, CRA treatment of gambling winnings, and regulatory timelines and notification duties after data breaches. Her work on this site is separate from her regulatory role, and no page on this site speaks for any regulator.

4. Checking

Each page is checked before publication against the primary documents it relies on. The check covers the following:

  1. That every stated rule, threshold, date and duty appears in the cited source.
  2. That quoted or paraphrased wording keeps the meaning of the source.
  3. That no figure, licence reference or statistic is included without a source.
  4. That links resolve to the document named in the link text.

Where a source is silent on a point, the page says so rather than filling the gap.

5. Independence and affiliate links

Editorial decisions on this site are made independently of any commercial arrangement. Some links on this site may earn a commission. This does not decide which topics are covered, which sources are used, what a page says or how a correction is handled. The affiliate disclosure sets out the position in full.

6. Review and updates

Pages are reviewed when a source document changes, when a regulator or court issues a decision that affects a stated position, or when a reader reports an error. A review may result in no change, a wording change or a rewrite. Where a page is rewritten, the revised text replaces the earlier text on the same page.

7. Corrections

Errors are corrected on the page where they appear. The correction process is as follows:

  1. A reported error is checked against the primary source.
  2. If the page is wrong, the text is corrected.
  3. A note is added at the foot of the page stating what was changed and the date of the change.
  4. If the page is not wrong, the reporter is told why through the comment thread, with a reference to the source.

Corrections are not made silently. A page that has been corrected keeps the correction note so that readers can see what changed.

8. Reporting an error

Errors can be reported through the comment form on the post concerned. The form collects a name, an email address, an optional website, the comment text, the IP address and the browser user agent. A comment may be held for review before it appears. Reports should identify the page, the sentence at issue and, where possible, the source that supports the correction.

No email address is published on this site. Contact is through the comment form on posts. General questions about the site can also be raised there, and the contact page explains how comments are handled.
